Attini's Badges Central plays on our human desire to collect things and our need to be rewarded. It rewards people for using SharePoint's (and Attini's) social solutions and motivates them to keep up the good work and collect more badges.
Using SharePoint's 'Activity Stream', Badge Central collates all the interaction a user has with SharePoint - tagging a document, updating their profile, rating a blog post - and rewards them in the form of a badge, which is displayed on their "MySite" profile.

What does it do?
Essentially it counts the number of times a particular activity appears in a person's stream, and when they get to a certain number, they win a badge.
It makes social participation fun and encourages the knowledge to keep flowing within the enterprise.
